When we initially formed Hockey Evolution in 2018, the idea behind it was to develop hockey by offering hockey camps and private coaching. One thing lead to another, and we found ourselves getting involved in starting new junior hockey clubs.
We initially helped set up Castletroy Hockey Club and then an opportunity came up for us to help launch Ennis Hockey Club, which we successfully did late last year. By this stage, we were working closely with Hockey Ireland to work out other potential locations of new hockey clubs, and have since started to launch more clubs and hope to expand to setting up clubs all over the country.
Since September 2019, we have now helped introduce over 200 kids to the game of hockey. It has become clear, that the way for us to have the biggest impact on the hockey community, is by using our expertise to help set up more junior hockey clubs.
The Hockey Evolution team is lead by Michael Houghton. Michael has considerable experience with hockey development and has been involved on committees of local hockey clubs, as well as on the Munster Hockey Branch. Michael has a business background mixed with an entrepreneurial mindset, with experience establishing and growing businesses.
Michael has played hockey since the age of nine and was captain of the Limerick Hockey Club men's seconds team for five years. Michael recently represented Munster at the over 35's inter-pro's.
Michael is a certified level one hockey coach and has experience coaching from under six to senior level.
The Hockey Evolution project wouldn't be possible without the help of a team. We have partnered with experienced hockey administrators and coaches to ensure that we are able to provide help and support both at running hockey clubs and also with hockey coaching.
We have also linked up with Hockey Ireland and work closely with them around the overall strategy of any new hockey clubs, as well as work with other hockey businesses which help us in launching new clubs.
